Summary I have spent my career as an academic physician scientist maintaining interests in basic, translational and clinical research, clinical care, teaching and program administration. I recognize that many rare syndromes in children present opportunities for better understanding of fundamental biological processes, that common diseases without effective treatments or noninvasive diagnostics present opportunities for translational partnerships, and that application of frontiers in basic science, engineering, computing and translational “omic” technologies is essential for medical progress. Most of my research endeavors in the past two decades pull together basic sciences with disciplines such as pediatrics, internal medicine, pathology, radiology to address significant clinical problems associated with metabolic derangements associated with obesity in children and adults. Research and Scholarship: Overview of progress: My major research interests encompass the epidemiology, natural history, genetics, etiopathogenesis, biomarker development and treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This disease is the most common chronic liver disease in American adults and ch
